Congratulations to our November Athlete of the Month, Lauren Maggiacomo! Lauren always arrives with a smile, works hard and takes instruction well. Lauren has grown as an athlete tremendously during her time at UCCF as a result of her consistent attendance and effort. Her focus on moving well and choosing manageable but challenging scaling options has allowed her to progress at an impressive rate! Lauren never backs down from a challenge, and never gives up on a WOD, always seeing it through to the end with a positive attitude. Way to go Lauren, we're lucky to have you!
A little more about Lauren...
How was I introduced to CrossFit?
Once upon a time, when I was a city girl, I was very active. I loved endurance events and dancing. Since moving to the Cape, my activity had dwindled to the occasional yoga or dance class and walking my dog. One of my best friends has been practicing CrossFit for a long time now. She would always talk about how proud she was of her accomplishments so, one day last year, after reading her inspiring Athlete of the Month story, I decided to try CrossFit.
My favorite WOD/exercise is?
I love the long workouts that make me question my sanity.
My 3 favorite movements are?
Rowing, double unders, squats (in all forms except Overhead)
If I never had to do this exercise again i would be psyched:
Assualt Bike for calories/ time/ any reason... also, wall balls... also, kettlebell swings...
My favorite cheat meal is:
Chicken parmigiana with a side of french fries, red wine and Oreos for dessert. (This was the easiest question to answer.)
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is?
The day I didn't overthink doing a squat clean and I just did it. I felt like I finally got the movement. Also, trying all of the workouts for the CrossFit open this year even though I was terrified of them. I definitely feel stronger and more confident both physically and mentally since I began CrossFit. Even the most grueling workout (i.e. anything with the Assualt Bike) is something I can get through and get better at.
My six month goal is?
To be able to do one strict pull-up (or get one step closer to doing one). And to cut down on my snacking and sugar intake -again (the struggle is real).
If I created a WOD and named it after myself it would be:
As a chipper or an AMRAP (if possible): All my favorites (and not so favorites)
60 double unders
50 air squats
40 burpees
30 kettle bell swings
20 wall balls
10 calories on the Assualt Bike
