Congratulations to Luke Voss for being the Upper Cape CrossFit Athlete of the Month for May 2019! Luke joined the UCCF community in September 2018 and has been crushing it since day one. We usually see him at a 5:00 or 6:00 PM class and most times he is here early or stays late to work on something. A lot of that hard work really showed during the CrossFit Open 2019 and continues to show in his daily workouts.
It seems as if there isn't a WOD that intimidates this guy. He shows up regularly and doesn't give up. He participates in challenges like the recent Rowing Challenges, even while out of town for part of it and then emailing his results in.
Luke came to us already a strong guy and has really been working on upping his game with regards to his cardio. He has been working so hard on his double-unders, running, rowing, etc. It is such a pleasure to work with him and see him give it his all everyday.

A little more about Luke...
How was I introduced to CrossFit?
A little over 3 years ago (living in Los Angeles at the time) I wandered in to CrossFit Crescenta Valley. I was looking for something besides hiking that I'd enjoy for physical activity. I'd been walking past the gym near my home and decided to check it out to see if I liked the class structure. Other than what I'd occasionally glimpsed through the window, I didn't know anything about CrossFit. Turns out it was a great fit! Coach Vaz taught me how to scale all the movements and everyone made me feel right at home. I'm really glad I wandered in!
My favorite WOD/exercise is?
Any long chipper workout. 20+ minutes of going as fast as I can without going too fast is a good mental exercise I enjoy on top of the physical part.
My 3 favorite movements are?
Power clean, push jerk, handstands
If I never had to do this exercise again I would be psyched:
I'm pretty firmly in the "work your weaknesses" camp, so I'm not sure I'd be psyched to never do some exercise again. On the other hand, assault bike.
My favorite cheat meal is:
Pizza!
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is?
Getting my first pull-up during the 2017 CrossFit Open.
My six month goal is?
Be able to do a set of 5 strict pull ups and 5 strict ring dips. Stretch goal: my first ring or bar muscle up.
If I created a WOD and named it after myself it would be:
I always enjoy a good rowing WOD. I didn't create it, but here's my favorite:
EMOM 2,4,6,8,10,... Calorie Row until failure
In the first minute, 2 Calorie row. In the second minute, 4 Calorie row. Continue each minute adding 2 more Calories to the row until you fail to accumulate the Calories within that minute. Score is total calories rowed through the workout.
