Congratulations to Ryan Brennan for being the Athlete of the Month for August 2019!!! Ryan has been such a great addition to the Upper Cape CrossFit family, joining us a year ago in September 2018. He has been a regular at the 6:00 AM class, but when he misses it due to his busy work schedule, he tries really hard to make up classes at other times. After being a member for only 6 months, he jumped right in and participated in the Open 2019 and brought his family along. It was magical to watch them cheer him on. He is a big supporter of his fellow athletes, as well as shared his love for the sport by exposing his children and their friends to it. He has coordinated several CrossFit Kids sessions for his son, Aiden, and several of his friends that he plays sports with. Ryan is an inspiration to his children/family and to the people who get to work out with him at Upper Cape CrossFit!
A little more about Ryan...
How was I introduced to CrossFit?
Since college some form or fitness has been an important part of my lifestyle. My best friend since childhood, James, had been trying to convince me to give CrossFit a try for a while. After 7 years of working out in my basement, I finally grew tired of working out alone and joined UCCF in September of 2018. The coaches and UCCF community are such a positive and encouraging group, I’m only disappointed that I waited so long to join.
My favorite WOD/exercise is?
I really enjoy the longer grueling WODs, MURPH would have to be one of my favorites.
My 3 favorite movements are?
Three favorite movements are handstand push-ups, toes to bar and rowing.
If i never had to do this exercise again i would be psyched:
While I enjoy a good challenge, I feel like the assault bike always gets the best of me.
My favorite cheat meal is:
I love tacos, especially fish tacos with a cabbage slaw and IPAs.
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is?
While I cannot string them together (yet), actually getting a double under was a pretty big achievement, as well as kipping pull-ups!
My six month goal is?
6-month goal is stringing together some double unders, a bar muscle up, and continuing to work on all the olympic lifts.
If I created a WOD and named it after myself it would be:
For time: 500m row, 50 pull-ups, 50 toes to bar, 50 handstand push-ups, 500m row
CrossFit has become a great part of my lifestyle, truly love it. Since joining UCCF, I’ve dropped into a number of gyms while traveling for work and vacations, and while they have all been great experiences, none compare to the coaches and facility at UCCF.
