Congratulations to our September Athlete of the Month, Katie Book! Katie is a regular in our Olympic Lifting Classes, but also likes to make surprise appearances at different CrossFit workouts — especially the Saturday partner WODs! Katie is as kind as she is fierce, always welcoming new members with a smile while bringing focus and dedication to the Olympic lifting platform. As one coach says, Katie is the embodiment of a “hungry, happy, and humble” athlete. She has a genuine curiousity and desire to improve, learning from her mistakes and constantly striving to make herself better. Her hard work has payed off as she has medaled in multiple Olympic Lifting competitions. Well done, Katie!
A little more about Katie...
How was I introduced to CrossFit?
I had friends in grad school who did CrossFit and that peaked my interest.
My favorite WOD/exercise is?
I love partner WODs on Saturdays because they force me out of my comfort zone and allow me to meet new people.
My 3 favorite movements are?
Clean & Jerk, Snatch, Back Squat
If I never had to do this exercise again I would be psyched:
I did thrusters once. Not a fan.
My favorite cheat meal is:
Polar Cave – Klondike Crunch & S’mores
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is?
Competing in the Festivus Games within 2 months of starting CrossFit. It’s a worldwide competition that is for beginner & intermediate athletes and is held at local gyms. I was proud that I didn’t finish last!
My six month goal is?
Be consistent with my diet and mobility and see where it takes me in the OLY world (hopefully to the American Open).
If I created a WOD and named it after myself it would be:
Kate Plus 8
8 Rounds for time:
8 cals on Bike
8 Deadlifts @ 80%
8 Power Cleans @ 80%
