Congratulations to Dan "Paco" Lopes for being the Athlete of the Month for April 2019! Paco has been a member of the Upper Cape CrossFit community since May 2017, but has been doing CrossFit even longer. Also known as "Paramedic Dan", he plays an important role not only at Upper Cape CrossFit, but also in our community working for Falmouth Fire and Rescue, as well as Falmouth Hospital. He helps people all around him!
Paco is always so supportive to all the UCCF members he encounters, offering a smile and/or assistance. He cheers people on, whether it is during a WOD or when coming in to support members during the OPEN. Need some assistance setting up or cleaning up? He's your man! Looking for something fun to do or a good cause to help support? He's your man! Looking for a great role model as far as when it comes to making good choices for weight/modifying in a workout? Again, he's your man!
We are also very thankful to Paco for his positive words to others about UCCF. Taken from his Facebook profile, "don't worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try." We are lucky to have gained some members as a result of them coming into UCCF because Paco encouraged them to give it a try. These are some powerful words we could all benefit from in our lives, whether it relates to CrossFit of other experiences.
Thanks, Paco, for all that you do!

A little more about Paco...
How was I introduced to CrossFit?
I was introduced into the CrossFit world by Nicole Stanley from Mashpee Fire and Rescue Department. We used to do cardio kickboxing and after that place closed I was looking for something new. I started in Mashpee and moved to UCCF a few years later.
Do I have a favorite WOD?
I'm not sure. I enjoy a combo of running and some sort of weight element involved with it. Maybe a tabata style workout like "tabata this."
My favorite WOD/exercise is?
As for my 3 favorite movements, I'll go with kettlebell swings, ball slams, and double under jump rope (now that I can finally string a few together) and stone over shoulder, I forgot that one.
If i never had to do this exercise again I would be psyched:
Oh, if i never had to do sotts, I would be very happy. I know we don't do them often, but I'm all set. Pistols also.
My favorite cheat meal is:
I'm going with homemade peanut butter cookies as my favorite cheat meal. Can't turn down a plate of those.
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:
I'm very proud that I make as many classes as I do. I can talk myself out of going to classes very easily, but make it a point to go. I am also very proud that I was able to get a bar muscle up.
My six month goal is?
I would like to eat less peanut butter cookies and get a few bar muscles up in a row. I'm thinking I'll get one of those within the next 6 months for my goal.
If I created a WOD and named it after myself it would be:
There is already one with my name that is a hero WOD. "Daniel" It looks like a fun one, but don't they all.
