We are so excited to announce that Jessie Alden is the Athlete of the Month for July! I think we can all agree that she totally deserves this! She has not let having her hand/wrist in a cast stop her one bit. If anything, she has worked even harder than ever. She always shows up at UCCF with a smile and positive attitude, works hard, and encourages others. Not only is Jessie an awesome role model, but she is also an ANIMAL! Congrats Jessie!
How I was introduced to CrossFit: I had been wanting to try CrossFit for a long time. I played soccer and lacrosse in college and since then I have been searching for something to replace the team aspect and competitive drive of team sports. A few teammates had joined CrossFit gyms and kept telling me how much I would love it. I moved back to the Cape about a year ago and was looking for a gym to join. I googled "Gym" near my dads house where I was living at the time and UCCF came up as the closest one. So, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
My favorite WOD/ exercise is: Anything involving squats and running.
And I have a very strange love of burpees.
If I never had to do this exercise again I would be psyched: Turkish get ups. I can never seem to get the timing right and end up flopping back down.
My favorite cheat food/meal is: Somerset ice cream.
I worked there in high school and I have tried every flavor.
My proudest accomplishment is: Sticking with it and dragging myself to the gym in a cast. I'm a little sick of one armed dumbell clean/snatch/squat, but I'm really proud of myself for pushing through.
My six month goal is: I struggle with gymnastic movements: pull-ups being my arch nemesis.
My goal for the next 6 months is: conquer the pullups.
Rope climbs and hand stand push ups would be nice too.
If I created a WOD and named it after myself, the workout would be:
"High Five" Cash in: 50 doubles and 5 rounds for time of 5 Thrusters, 5 Burpees, 5 Walking weighted lunges each leg, 5 Burpees, 500m run and Cash out: 50 Doubles.
What I love most about UCCF: An easy answer: The people. It is way more than a gym. An awesome community of really wonderful people. I also love the variety and the constant challenge. Its easy to fall into a workout rut doing the same thing every day and getting bored. CrossFit keeps the mind and the body guessing and makes it fun to come to the gym. I would like to thank all of the coaches for helping me modify over the past 6 weeks. I really appreciate your creativity and motivation.
