Joe and his wife, Gretchen, have really made CrossFit a family affair. While they rarely have the opportunity to workout together, they make sure they coordinate time for each of to get in here, as they juggle work and their daughter, Rory, who makes her way in her occasionally to cheer mom and dad on.
Per one of our coaches, Joe is "always welcoming to new athletes, introducing himself to members he doesn’t know. He’s made a ton of progress over time, and I appreciate that he’s receptive to coaching and advice." Another coach said "he's a good guy too." We couldn't agree more!
Keep up the great work, Joe!
How was I introduced to CrossFit?
I had read about CrossFit and had seen the Games on TV years ago. Gretchen and I had been talking about it for years as a way to cross train for Triathlons. We finally came by in December 2017, where I got Gretchen a punch card to UCCF for Christmas. Now we absolutely love it, it's so much more than just a workout
My favorite WOD/Exercise is?
Rowing. With an endurance background I can find the right pace and hold there for a while so I tend to do well on rowing heavy workouts. It helps that I'm 6'2".
My 3 favorite movements are?
Back Squat, Cleans, Bench Press
If I never had to do this exercise again I would be psyched:
My favorite cheat meal is:
Meatball Pizza. I could use better discipline on diet in general though, it's not really a cheat meal if you have it almost weekly.
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:
Being able to do an Open workout RX'd. This is my second open, last year I had only been doing CrossFit for a few weeks and couldn't even attempt any of them RX'd. Looking back at the 2018 workouts, while I would put a time cap on many of the workouts just being able to attempt them RX'd is a huge accomplishment for me.
My six month goal is:
Continue to show up as often as I can and working with a great group of people. Keeping my diet under control and loosing a few more pounds. And stringing together bar muscle-ups/getting a ring muscle-up.
